The final day of the #instatidechallenge asks us to share a photo of someone who inspires you. This dreamy photo was taken by my good friend @kaylafphoto in San Francisco. Doesn't the light just look like honey?! SO GORGEOUS! She is wonderful photographer/person so if you need photos done in the SF area... she is your girl! ⠀ //flowers by @thepetalcompany

“With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,⠀ it is still a beautiful world.⠀ Be cheerful.⠀ Strive to be happy.” ⠀ ⠀ Max Ehrmann ⠀ ⠀ This poem really resonated with me today. With all of the turmoil in the world today, It makes me happy that my illustrations can be a bright spot in someone’s day. There are not many things better than opening a piece of mail that is not a bill or a credit card offer. I like to imagine the smile at the mailbox or the joy of giving a gift that my customers receive. I know that in the grand scheme of things this is trivial, but the thought of it makes all of the hard work worth it. ⠀ I think Buddy the Elf said it best. “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”… except my singing is painting and hopefully I can spread cheer at other times of the year too. Ha! #instatidechallenge

Today’s #instatide challenge is to share a little bit about our morning routine. I have been tweaking my morning routine this year, after realizing that hectic mornings lead to hectic days. After reading about my morning routine, you may think I am um… crazy/ type a…. but.. I might be! :) ⠀ 1. COFFEE. The alarm goes off at 5:30 and I typically snooze until 5:45. I somehow stumble into the kitchen and make myself a big ol’ cup of black coffee. ⠀ 2. I bring my coffee and do 10 minutes of meditation. I started using the Headspace app and I think it is wonderful. I am in no way, shape, or form “good” at clearing my mind, but I am working on it! ⠀ 3. 10 minutes of yoga. I have been loving that snooze button and missing this step for the past week or so… but I need to get back at it! ⠀ 4. I write down 5 things I am grateful for… my list begins with coffee a lot of the time. ⠀ 5. I get dressed, put my face on, grab my breakfast and lunch and get in the car. ⠀ 6. I have a 30 minute commute to my school, so I usually listen to an audio book that I check out from the library. I highly recommend the book “Big Magic” for the creative types! ⠀ 7. At school, I create my to do list and identify my top three priorities for the day while I eat my breakfast.⠀ Like every normal person, sometimes time slips away from me and I run to the car with rachet hair and no shoes. Grace, not perfection though… Right? I can’t wait to read about everyone else’s routines. They are so interesting to me!⠀ *P.S. This is the sample mug that I received in the mail! So excited about these!

Hello Everybody! Today @risingtidesociety challenged us to share a little bit about ourselves for their #instatidechallenge. For those of you that don’t know, RTS is a group of creatives throughout the country that meet once a month for professional learning, collaboration, and to simply get to know one another. I am so thankful that I have gotten to know the supportive girls in our group and that we can share in the highs and lows of running a creative business. Big shouts to @newevejewelry, @jwayphoto @simplyjessicamarie @jamiecarlephoto and my long distance biz bestie @kaylafphoto. I realize that you see a lot of paintings of dogs on my account and I am a bit reserved when it comes to sharing about myself. Here are five facts about little ol’ me. 1. When I am not in my studio, I am an art teacher at a local elementary school. I LOVE my students and am continually blown away by their creative ideas, talent, and hilarious stories. (ie. Mrs. Hitchcock “Did you know my cat has 3 toes?”) 2. I have an amazing husband named Blake, who I could not live without. #youarethewindbeneathmywings (Joke… kind of, not really) Our wedding ceremony included snippets of marriage advice from my kindergarten students such as… First see if they like you or LOVE you, Make up a new holiday, Wear a lot of bracelets, Take a sticky note that says “I love you very much” and stick it on his face, Make up a new holiday, Take your husband to Dollywood… I could go on. SOLID ADVICE! 3. I have lived in 6 states because my father was in the Air Force. Arkansas, California, North Dakota, Louisiana, Florida and Tennessee. I love warm weather and don’t think I could handle North Dakota winters! 4. I joke that I am an ice cream expert! My first job in high school was making cones at Dairy Queen. After that, I worked at a frozen yogurt shop in my college town. I still am addicted to frozen treats! 5. When I was growing up I wanted to be a marine biologist. Even though I am currently landlocked, I hope to live by the ocean one day! If you read all of this, you get a gold star! I would love to get to know more about you all. Leave an interesting tidbit about yourself below!

Sometimes you can just feel a dog's soul through their eyes... that is how I feel when I see sweet Macy! I am still recovering from the HGTV shoot. It is so wild to be able to paint in front of so many people. To be honest, I was so nervous to do it, but am so glad I did! So many people reached out to say how one of the paintings reminded them of a pup they had lost and it brought them a smile. I am so grateful that I can spark these warm fuzzies in people through my paintings!

Meet Chewie!// This weekend has already been so fun! Spent last night at Greek Fest eating delicious food and dancing in circles (very badly). This morning my school participated in The Llama Race to benefit Casa de Sara. Our llama was all dressed up for a birthday party! Click my profile picture to see the cutie in my insta story.
